For early traders the only trade routes were by sea.Given the rich fish resources, fish salting factories were set up, of which some remain today . They produced the famous Garum, a fish sauce very popular thoughout the Roman empire, today we have ketchup.
The Romans left the temple of the God Juno, today submerged under the water
Moorish invaders named trafalgar after its caves and caños de mecca after discovering the abundance of natural springs. The Christians reconquered the area in the 14th century and built the watchtower system to protect the coast from marauding pirates. In 1805 the English defeated the combined Spanish and french fleet at the battle of trafalgar. Today caños is a layed back resort surrounded by natural beauty | |
